Psychologists have long known that every person has two great longings and inward needs. The first is to be loved, and the second is to love. But when pressures and heartaches come into our lives, many give up any hope of ever finding love.
The tragedy is that we often look in the wrong places to fill this deep, deep need and longing. Some substitute lust for love. Others pursue material things or superficial relationships - all in the futile attempt to fill a God-shaped vacuum in the human heart.
But there is good news! There is a love worth finding and a love worth sharing. The Bible says, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). On the cross of Christ, God's mighty love was revealed and offered unconditionally to all who would be saved.

... and God's servants must not be troublemakers. They must be kind to everyone, and they must be good teachers and VERY PATIENT. Be humble when you correct people who oppose you. Maybe God will lead them to turn to him and learn the truth. They have been trapped by the devil, and he makes them obey him, but God may help them escape.

My Dear God,
Why we have to suffer so much ? Why can´t we enjoy more moments of happiness ? Why do we have to see tears of suffering during a night that was supposed to be moments of laugh, sharing and joy while celebrating a brother's birthday ?
Help remind us that you are in control of everything even though we don´t understand and nothing makes sense for us. Give us strength and as your Word says: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with THANKSGIVING, we present our requests to You. And YOUR PEACE, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus.
Help us remember your suffering in the cross was million times worst than our deepest pain. Help us Lord to continue, help us...
... even if you are feeling like giving up on God and everything, trust in the LORD with ALL YOUR HEART, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths each and everyday : )

The Simplicity of Salvation

Jesus said, "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10). Do you want to know how to be saved? Or want to know how you can tell others how to be saved? Then, let's look at Romans 10:1-10:
1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? that is, to bring Christ down from above: 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead. 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
The Righteousness That God Rejects
When a person tries to be righteous by keeping the Ten Commandments or by doing good deeds, God rejects that. Why would God do that? Because God is holy and man is sinful at his best. The best that we can do is not enough.
We don't have what it takes to keep the Ten Commandments in our own strength. If you're hanging over a fire by a chain of ten links and nine of them are forged steel and one of them is made of paper, how safe are you?
That's the reason the Bible says if we should keep the whole law and yet offend in one point, we are guilty of all. God demands perfection and we just can't supply it. Salvation is not a reward for the righteous; it is a gift for the guilty. Salvation is not a goal to be achieved; it is a gift to be received.
The Righteousness That God Reveals
Romans 1:17 says, "For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith." The only righteousness that is acceptable to God is a gift of faith through His Son Jesus Christ.
You believe in who He says He is – the God made flesh who died and rose again for you to be reconciled to God. Then, you repent of your sins and confess Christ as Lord of your life.
If Jesus is not the Lord of your life, then He is not your Savior. Salvation is not a cafeteria line where we say, "Well, I believe I'll have a little Savior today, but no Lordship. Thank you." No! Jesus is Lord.
The Righteousness That God Requires
The only righteousness that God will accept is sinless perfection. And that was accomplished through His Son Jesus Christ.
Romans 3:21 says, "This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe." Romans 10:10 says, "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Do you know what it means to believe and confess that Jesus is Lord? It literally means that you agree with God. In this context, it also means that you will tell others about this confession. And that means you will not be ashamed. There are only two ways to be saved: If you live a sinless life (which no one has done, except Jesus) or you ask the Jesus to take the payment of your sin for you (which He did on the cross), and accept His righteousness on your behalf. Second Corinthians 5:21 says, "For He [God] hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him."

En lo cual vosotros os alegráis, aunque ahora por un poco de tiempo, si es necesario, tengáis que ser afligidos en diversas pruebas, para que sometida a prueba vuestra fe, mucho más preciosa que el oro, el cual aunque perecedero se prueba con fuego, sea hallada en alabanza, gloria y honra cuando sea manifestado Jesucristo : )
But "living and keeping friendships" are not always easy. Or should I say, it's very very difficult if you don't learn to fully rely on God. One thing about friendship and friends that is the most difficult to do is dealing with envy and jealousy.
Many times we act like mere men. The apostle Paul reminded us of this on his first letter to the Corinthians: You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly ? Are you not acting like mere men ?
OK, you may ask what does this has to do with your friendship and friends ? Well, friends do suffer from envy and do struggle with jealousy. I am not only speaking specifically of my friend or of me tonight, although I know we've battled and still battle with this as well. I am speaking of many people and situations I've seen throughout the years inside and outside church. It's not just one case. There are many everywhere. Because of respect for my friends, I better not focus on details.
But these acquaintances, friends and situations worry me sometimes. Better make that always, not only sometimes. It worries me a lot. It worries me what would be of our local church a few years down the road.
Things I´ve seen have stopped me dead in my tracks. I've seen that years of studying the bible, time spent devouring the Word of God and graduating from seminary doesn't necessarily protect you or make you stronger against jealousy, envy, ill-will, spite, resentment, what have you. It's how much you truly surrender yourself to the Lord, confess your sins, forgive, forget and move on.
Let us remember always Philippians 3:13-14, the apostle Paul wrote: Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
May our Almighty God help us all, including me, with our daily struggles and learn to move on, to press on toward the goal heavenward.

Last night I led another bible study. It was linked with last week´s topic: friendship. We learned once more about the example given to us by the biblical friendship between David and Jonathan.
I invited a friend last night to participate and he went. This friend of mine studied in bible seminary for some years. Got back here and began serving. I appreciate him a lot and although we didn't shared a lot throughout the years before, I think we've become closer lately and have shared more.
Living, doing and practicing what you are preaching gives us all many satisfactions and much to be shared in Christian life ... (to be continued later

Is it your will my Dear Lord ? I can´t get this question off my mind lately. It began as a dream years ago. Now it´s stronger. I am not finding joy in my current life anymore. You know that this rat race has left me without strength. This cough hasn´t left me for a long time. Everyday I arrive office with a strange sadness. You haven´t opened doors with that special person yet. I only know your will for me is good, pleasing and perfect. Give me your wisdom, your love and peace everyday. Help me to use a two year period to plan wisely. I am willing dear God, I am willing...
Dear God,
I am not at peace right now. Please forgive me. Thanks for the lesson today. Thanks for the verse in James that reminds me: We all stumble in many ways.
My intention was never to put her in such a difficult situation my Lord, but I´ve learned your painful lesson of love once again. I was willing to share more both honestly and sincerely, but I couldn't see the whole picture at that moment, but only afterwards when thinking with serenity. I should have been more wise and mature. Please open my eyes and heart next time my Lord, so that I am able to see beyond her words. Give me more of your wisdom everyday my loving God...give me your peace, I am needing it now, it hurts so much...
... my friend and her sister are adults already. Maybe their parents fights won´t affect them that much now (it is still a bad example for their daughters, I hope they won´t emulate them in this behaviour when married themselves). If they were still children, probably a bigger damage would have caused in their lives. I think maybe now that the girls each have "their own life" and both Mom and Dad no longer have to constantly look up for them, they can do as they wish: meaning that they are "sort of" free from the burden of taking care of their little girls. They live separately, they can do whatever they want, they can meet new people, maybe even, since they are not under the same roof, are dating someone without the other one knowing, who knows. Maybe both girls already gave up trying to talk them back to care for each other. Maybe they don´t even care anymore. If they want to live their own life as they wish, so be it.
But I believe, in their hearts they still have some unhappiness. I believe they still have moments of sadness. They both know they still have an unresolved problem, a pending difficulty that can´t be overcomed as long as they don´t sit together to have a sincere talk, a first step, a step in the right direction. A sincere prayer for God´s guidance and a conversation free of bad feelings towards your spouse accepting your fault.
God´s word is full of wisdom in reminding us about these problems. A classic verse is Ephesians 4:26-27 and it says: In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.
When James (Jesus´ brother and pastor of the church of Jerusalem) wrote to the christian jews around year 49 AD, he reminded them on his letter: My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
Also, Psalms 37:8 reminds us to: Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.
And 1 John 1:9 says: If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
The big problem I always see is people confess to God and stop there. They stop short of doing something very important. They don´t say sorry to the one they sinned against. It´s not easy, that´s right, but it´s very necessary. It "takes balls" as the saying goes. People many times say to themselves: hey, why don´t he/she take the first step ? Why me ? But I tell you, you are just refraining yourself from a lot of blessings and happiness by taking this approach. I tell you it "takes balls" to be a sin confessing & loving person and you better start practicing ; )
My prayer for my friend and her parents is that they are able to both let go their ego. To them, my best wishes that in the Lord they will surrender to His will, which is of the best for all His children always. I hope they both can let go their selfishness and think of a family life restored in God`s love. My prayer is for them to give themselves a second chance for a rich family life together. I think they deeply want it and need it. Amen : )

Have you seen people get mad at each other ? And I am not talking about just a temporary anger. It´s the persistent rancour and resentment that they are unable to let go. Well, I´ve seen a lot of these people. One of my best friends from university is living with this problem. Her mom and dad have been fighting for years. I mean, everytime I chat with her on MSN and ask about her family, she says: olvídalo amigo, eso no tiene solución... literally forget about it, it has no solution : ( ... and I tell her, yes it has. Both of them should let go their ego and forgive each other. And she says, yeah, I know, easily said, but not easily done for them ...
I don´t know about you my dear reader, but there are days when I wake up with a strange mix of feelings.
I don´t even know how to put it in words. It´s like a sort of a salad mix with uncertainty, bad mood, indifference and routine mixed all together. I feel sort of not being used by God to be of blessing for others. Am I being selfish ? Am I lacking in love lately (my love toward others, that is; not that God is not loving me - He´ll always) I don´t even want to touch the Bible for some guidance. But then again, when this happens, a bible verse always comes to my mind: it´s in Psalms 46:10 and it says... "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, Iwill be exalted in the earth."
Be still, it says. And this verse reminds me God is all powerful. I put a smile on my face even though it´s sort of hard. Ask for God´s forgiveness inmediately if I am being selfish on my ways. And, be still and wait for God to work things out. I just need to fully rely on Him, on His power to make things happen. To be still and calm and know that He is God is my motto for today. May you remember God´s word in your difficult times and be still and pray too. May God bless you :)

I doubt it because in her loneliness, she may have feelings of guilt. I´ve heard many women are taught since childhood they were to make their husband happy and if they weren´t able to, then they were to blame, not the man. In the other words, the victim was to blame, not the criminal. This was nonsense for me. I couldn´t understand it. For me it was as simple as, man mistreating woman, woman should report him, go to jail, spend some time there thinking about his wrongdoings. End of story. Why would the woman have feelings of guilt ? Why would she feel bad about solving her domestic violence problem ? And then one day I asked my girl cousin and her answer was plain and simple: because she is still in love with him.
Maybe she is still in love with him. Maybe she did something that ignited his anger. Or maybe it was the guy who, unabled to control his problem with alcohol, lost the senses and became an animal and deserved all punishment and also professional help. Maybe he was fired from work and instead of encouragement, what he received at home was criticism and lack of love. Who knows ? I don´t.
What I do know is long ago, an apostle of JesusChrist wrote this: Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. It is there in the Bible. Book of Colossians, chapter 3, verse 18-19. The apostle Paul also wrote to the Ephesians: Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. And this last one´s my favorite. If you wish, take your Bible and go to the book of Ephesians, chapter 5, from verses 24 to 28: Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
May God bless these two that woke me up in the morning with their shouts. May they have the opportunity to hear God´s word regarding fighting spouses. May both submit to God and learn how to live a blessed life in Him. And may they, as is mentioned in Jeremiah, learn that, not the jail, not the house, but God should be their strength, their fortress, their refuge in times of distress.
I was waked up this morning with shouts. Not by anyone at home, TG, haha.... but by a woman shouting and crying at the police station beside my house. A case of domestic violence for sure, though I couldn´t hear clearly what she was saying. It seems she was being mistreated by her husband so she took him to the police. The guy seemed to be drunk and angry. Good for her, she found help with the police guys, she found a temporary refuge and shelter at the station. Domestic violence may lead to X amount of jail time for the guy. It may give the woman some peace. Is that the solution for her problems ? What when he gets out ? What would happen after ? I hope it turns out good for them. I hope there will be forgiveness and go back to being as a family.
Guy jailed and alone overcoming his drunkness. Gal back home. Guy definitely didn´t found a refuge in jail. Does gal found it back home ? I doubt it...

It´s crazy how this Susan Boyle phenomenon has turned out. It was just a matter of days. Try "googling" for Susan Boyle and you´ll get about 2,960,000 results. Crazy sometimes how gossip (facebook, anyone?) or a guy/gal having enjoying their 15 minutes of fame (or shame) gets this snowball effect so rapidly on the web in just a matter of hours... She got a fan site already (http://www.susan-boyle.com) and the slogan is "Never judge a book by it´s cover" BTW, another song she sang for a charity before was discovered: "Cry me a river" is the title. If you just close your eyes & hear it maybe an image of a lady in night dress besides a piano on an upscale restaurant singing, just like in the movies, comes to your mind, hahaha (talking about judging, huh ?). The next James Bond movie theme says a guy in YouTube´s comments, hahahahahah,... She was even commented on the Wall Street Journal blog. I mean, isn´t this newspaper supposed to be a "boring" financial publication ? (well, at least that was my perception back when I use to buy it along with the Sunday printed paper edition of La Prensa). Well, I suppose after all, all economic issues matter to the WSJ and without a doubt this Susan Boyle craze may turn out to be profitable for many as well. Good for her :)

While I was hearing this song, I was thinking of the "meaning of life" for many people. A popular phrase came to my mind as well: Life Sucks, and then you die. I am not sure where, when and from whom I heard it from, or maybe I read it somewhere... This phrase may or may not describe your life at this moment. For me, it´s this precise phrase that "sucks". It´s pessimistic, it´s depressing, it, well, it sucks. It reminds me also of people that have looked for happiness, for ways to be better everyday (which is good), people who may have read a lot of self-improvement books, that are forever busy trying to have at least a "durable" happiness (let´s not even talk about long-lasting happiness with something or someone) but at the end are still sad and empty. Maybe they´ve forgotten nothing on this world can fill that void in their hearts. Maybe they have been searching in the wrong places. Maybe they have relied on their own human strength. Maybe they are even thinking they haven´t reached that "happiness level" and still wake up everyday and keep trying. Maybe they´ve forgotten there is a God, all powerful, all Mighty, capable of anything and able to comfort you in your darkest hours and able to lift you up when you are down, keep you going no matter what. Maybe they´ve forgotten (on purpose, or too distracted and busy by all things the world´s offering) that there is only one Creator of all things visible and invisible that can fill your need for happiness. Or maybe they´ve gone to church or tried to "look and search for God" but what they "saw or say they saw" on these places where there was supposed to be "better people" or "people who made it" (found God, that is) was a bunch of "nice hypocrites". Well, maybe or maybe not. But, anyway, your life doesn´t have to suck. You don´t have to just live and then die. Your life can have a meaning. Your life and happiness need not (and cannot) be dependent on other persons. Your life should have a purpose. Your life should be in need of God and his faithful promises ... May God bless you and may your life from now on, doesn´t suck :)

Another year, another Easter. Resurrection Sunday has passed a few hours ago. In a few hours, I´ll have to prepare for another work week. I hope this Monday´s not as manic. Hope it doesn´t turn out to be "just another manic monday" like the Bangles song, hahaha... but a day & week full of blessings in the Lord.

Hi folks, back to the Credomatic case, I posted before... interesting that while googling for "Credomatic + cargos por mora" I found out a guy in Costa Rica sued Credomatic for not announcing the new fees to their customers (...Credomatic en reiteradas ocasiones procede a modificar cargos sin informar previamente como corresponde.) and won the case.
It´s Holy Saturday in Panama. I´ve been with the flu for several days now : ( ... and since I´m at home having some rest this weekend, I thought it would be great to blog something and share with all. As soon as I get flu-free will be going to the nearest "policlínica" to get the flu shot. I can´t stand one more year with this: going every 5 minutes because of runny nose, coughing loudly, headache, no way... next year, story will be different. I missed this year´s retreat (just went for a couple hours and got back), the outdoor activities and friends. Anyhow, there were many benefits out of this "isolation": chat with a friend in need last night, told him again I will remain praying for him, take some time to read, check my accounts and, by the way, discovered something that doesn't benefit me in any way !!! The guys at Credomatic raised their credit card late fees to from $10 to $29.95, I mean, almost triple !!....
